End of Season Shoot – 14th October 2012

This years EOS shoot started in sub-zero conditions with a stiff frost on the 300 yard firing point. However by 0900 the intense sun was blinding the first detail, melting the ice and producing high scores in totally calm conditions.

With an unusually small field of just 8 shooters due to late withdrawals, there were three possibles and two 49’s in the first of the four shoots of the day. This heady start was short lived however as a treacherous angle changing wind developed to destroy hopes of record scores.

Mike Hayden in one of his rare appearances led the field at lunchtime with the only double possible and 100.12 . All heaved a sigh of relief as he departed, not able to stay on for the long range details in the afternoon.

900 yards proved very testing in a difficult 12 o’clock flicking wind which thankfully steadied by the time we moved back to 1000 yards for the final detail.

Prizes were evenly distributed with Colin Skellett taking the Holland Shield by one point from Bob Jackson and Ashley Coleman-Cooke winning the EOS Tankard.

In the ensuing prize giving which encompassed the competitions shot throughout the season, Nick Verduyn retained the Crossley Cup and won the Morrisson Salver with Ashley Coleman Cooke retaining the Donegall Badge and Alistair Bullen winning the 7.62 Trophy.
