Imperial Meeting 2012

Our usual diehards always turn up with high hopes for this annual pilgrimage and by recent past successes this is not without reason. The preceding years 2009, 10 and 11 had all produced notable achievements so Colin Skellett, Alistair Bullen, Nick Verduyn, Ashley Coleman-Cooke and Bob Jackson were justifiably looking for success again.

This year however kept us waiting. By the end of the long weekend it was Nick, who with steady shooting combined with his ‘O’ class status had amassed an amazing 14 prize list finishes. Bob, Ashley and Colin were all looking for excuses having managed only one listing between them. Alistair Bullen was shooting steadily but the best was still to come. He had committed to shoot the whole meeting while the others had either succumbed to the pressures of work or returned home just to lick their wounds.

Tuesday saw St Georges 1st stage and with a 73.11, Alistair was through to stage II. Likewise in Queens I on the Wednesday he produced a reassuring 105.14 to join 299 others in the second stage.

These days to get to an Imperial final requires almost faultless shooting and despite scores of 146.13 in Queens II and 74.9 in Georges II Alistair needed just that bit extra to beat the cuts at 147.14 and 148.19 respectively. A commendable performance none the less and he with the rest of the squad will be trying yet again to up their game for next year.
