The Invitation

For those who wish to take up Full Bore target rifle shooting as a sport, the individual must now meet strict criteria recently imposed by the Ministry of Defence and administered by the National Rifle Association. This includes collect personal details from you before you attend one of our shoots and pass these details on to Hertfordshire Constabulary to inform them of our activities.

If individuals would prefer to learn in a Club atmosphere, Welwyn Phoenix RC is an NRA Affiliated Club, approved for delivering a probationary training course for Target Rifle. Training is therefore purposely limited to FULL BORE TARGET RIFLE ONLY and is available to individuals over the age of 14 years. Training in Gallery Rifle and Black Powder Pistol disciplines is NOT part of the WPRC course.

Successful candidates completing the training course will qualify for Full Membership of Welwyn Phoenix Rifle Club and if they wish, will be able to join the National Rifle Association.  Certificates of Competence are required to be held by all civilians shooting over MOD ranges. That means Bisley and nearly all other ranges in the UK.

If you are currently uncertain if Full Bore Target Shooting is really the sport for you, but would like to try it out before committing to a full training program, we recommend that you initially take advantage of attending a Guest Day with WPRC. Have a look at the dates on our programme and give us a call to discuss costs and what’s involved. We ask you to contact us at least 21 days prior, if you would like to try a Guest Day shoot with WPRC.
