153rd Imperial Meeting – July 2022

Imperial 2022

153rd Imperial Meeting, July 14th to 23rd 2022

Early season shooting at WPRC had been favoured with good weather, but nothing like we were to experience in this year’s Imperial Meeting, where temperatures soared into the mis 30’s and beyond. Heath fires had forced cancellation of most Match Rifle events in the five days leading up to Target Rifle competition but was thankfully under control by First Friday.

Only four WPRC members represented the club this year. Colin Skellett with a detached retina, Bob Jackson with continuing shoulder problems and John Cade were unable to shoot.

TARGET RIFLE

The WPRC TR squad of Nick Verduyn, Tom Stevenson, Ashley Coleman-Cooke and Alistair Bullen, joined in the fray on First Friday for the nine days of competition to follow.

Team shooting

As in previous years, the club entered teams in the Steward, and Belgian competitions.

Summary results were:

Steward 27h ex 37 with a score of 653.40
Team of: Verduyn, Bullen, Coleman-Cooke, Stevenson

Belgian 19th ex 39 with a score of 609.56
Team of: Verduyn, Bullen, Coleman-Cooke, Stevenson

Individual shooting

Prize list placings were hard to find for our squad. Alistair and Tom featured twice each, and Nick shooting below his reliable best only made the Prince of Wales list. Alistair’s 9th position in the Lovell was the top of this year’s collection.
Both Ashley and Tom had decided to leave camp before St Georges I and Queens I .

In the first stages of these two prestigious competitions, Nick was eliminated from both, and only Alistair remained to carry the club challenge into the second stage of the St Georges. Unfortunately, glory did not favour the brave and he did not make the cut at 147.10

The Grand Aggregate did give Nick Verduyn some satisfaction, with a 92nd position from an entry of 643 competitors.

So that was our Imperial, enjoyable as ever despite the heat. Roll on the 154th Imperial Meeting in 2023.
