Learning to Shoot Full Bore Target Rifle

For those who wish to take up Full Bore target rifle shooting as a sport, the individual must now meet strict criteria imposed by the Ministry of Defence and administered by the National Rifle Association.

The MoD ruled that from 1st January 2009, Certificates of Competence are required to be held by all civilians shooting over MoD ranges. That means Bisley and nearly all other ranges in the UK. These certificates are renewable on an annual basis.

To obtain one of these certificates, the individual must either:

Already be a member of an NRA affiliated club and have the experience to pre-qualify for certification.

Already be a member of an NRA affiliated club, attend a Probationary Training Course run by either the NRA or one of their affiliated clubs which has been approved for delivering this training and pass an Assessment Test at the end of the training period.

Full details of the courses carried out by the NRA are available on the NRA website. Full Membership to the NRA or any Affiliated Club, is a pre-requisite for entry to the NRA course.

If individuals would prefer to learn in a Club atmosphere, Welwyn Phoenix RC is an NRA Affiliated Club, approved by the NRA for delivering this training course for Target Rifle and subsequently Scoped Rifles.

If you are currently uncertain if Target Shooting is really the sport for you, but would like to try it out before committing to a full training program, we recommend that you initially take advantage of attending a Guest Day with WPRC.
