Target Rifle (TR) at Welwyn Phoenix RC

Although formed as a Hertfordshire club, WPRC specialises in Full Bore Target Rifle and shoots exclusively at the National Rifle Association world-renowned ranges in Bisley, Surrey. Regarded as the global mecca and centre of excellence for all target shooters, Bisley offers all target disciplines and provides ranges at distances up to 1200 yards. Shooting at Bisley is restricted to those aged 14 years and above.

We are a Home Office Approved club and so can have up to 12 Guest Days per year. These days are designed to enable guests to decide if Full Bore TR is the sport they wish to persue, and if WPRC can provide a club atmosphere in which to learn and improve the skills required.

All new members are required to complete a probationary training scheme unless they already hold that qualification.

We have a membership of around 30 and a full club programme shooting monthly across ranges from 300 to 1000 yards. The club program runs from March through October and is primarily designed to meet the needs and aspirations of club members as they strive to improve. This can mean occasionally shooting shoulder to shoulder with national champions!!

Our main aim is a relaxed and sociable yet competitive atmosphere, and the active encouragement of those who strive to improve. Coaching from beginner standard and upwards is always available and actively encouraged for the improving shooter.

Activities are also tailored to allow members to take part in County and other Bisley Club events. Several members have represented at County and National level and we aim to enter Club teams in both County and Imperial Meeting competitions.  Without a doubt the biggest event of the season, and one of the largest shooting events in the world is the NRA’s Imperial meeting.

The Imperial Meeting attracts international competitors from all walks of life during the 5-week-long competition meeting. As well as individual events, the NRA’s imperial meeting also consists of both national and international team matches and attracts visitations from overseas teams including Australia, Canada, Channel Islands, South Africa, Kenya, USA, Malaysia and New Zealand.
