WPRC have been shooting as a club since 1982 and are currently the most active of the Hertfordshire Rifle Association clubs. Not surprisingly many members live in the Home Counties but despite our Hertfordshire affiliation, our membership catchment area spreads as far afield as Yorkshire.

Although formed as a Hertfordshire club, WPRC shoot exclusively at the National Rifle Association ranges in Bisley, Surrey. Regarded as the global mecca for all target shooters Bisley offers all target disciplines and provides ranges at distances up to 1200 yards. Shooting at Bisley is restricted to those aged 14 years and above.

Visitors to this website should note that this Rifle Club cannot offer shooting in Air weapons, Small bore .22 or any discipline other than Full Bore Target Rifle.

We have a full club programme running from March through October, which is primarily designed to meet the needs and aspirations of club members. Our main aim is a relaxed and sociable yet competitive atmosphere, and the active encouragement of those who strive to improve. Coaching from beginner standard and upwards is always available and actively encouraged for the improving shooter. Activities are also tailored to allow members to take part in County and other Bisley Club events. Several members have represented at County and National level and we aim to enter Club teams in County and Imperial meeting competitions.

We use paid markers and when shooting an average club day of five shoots, the cost including top quality ammo is about £75. The Club has all the equipment necessary to support its activities, including four top quality RPA 2000 rifles, hire of which is only £15.00 per day and £7.50 per half day for those members who do not have their own equipment. Club subscriptions work out at £65.00 per annum which includes block entry fees to all club competitions. There are VERY favourable rates for Junior members and Under 25 members, who benefit from low cost equipment hire, low cost range fees and reduced membership rates.

The growth of our sport is one of the strong focuses at the club. To encourage guests to join us for a day on the ranges, we charge a ‘Green Fee’ of £10.00 a day to visitors (Juniors and U25’s £5.00) who are supervised during the shooting day by an appointed experienced Coach and Mentor. Green Fee attendance is limited to two appearances per season, which can be credited against a full subscription paid on joining the Club.

Due to changes imposed by the Ministry of Defence, novices who wish to take up the sport are required to join Rifle Clubs affiliated to the NRA. In doing so they are also required to complete a formal training course which is run by WPRC.
