Welwyn Phoenix Rifle Club has been shooting Full Bore Target Rifle as a club since 1982 and are currently the most active of the Hertfordshire Rifle Association clubs. Several members have represented at County and National level.
Not surprisingly many members live in the Home Counties but despite our Hertfordshire affiliation, our membership catchment area spreads as far afield as Yorkshire. We are always interested in new members who want to join us and continue their personal development and aspirations in Full Bore Target Rifle shooting.
Visitors to this site should note that this Rifle Club cannot offer shooting in Air weapons, Small bore .22 or any discipline other than Full Bore Target Rifle.
Target Rifle (TR) at Welwyn Phoenix RC
Although formed as a Hertfordshire club, WPRC specialises in Full Bore Target Rifle and shoots exclusively at the National Rifle Association world-renowned ranges in Bisley, Surrey. Regarded as the global mecca and centre of excellence for all target shooters, Bisley offers all target disciplines and provides ranges at distances up to 1200 yards. Shooting at Bisley is restricted to those aged 14 years and above.
We are a Home Office Approved club and so can have up to 12 Guest Days per year. These days are designed to enable guests to decide if Full Bore TR is the sport they wish to persue, and if WPRC can provide a club atmosphere in which to learn and improve the skills required.
All new members are required to complete a probationary training scheme unless they already hold that qualification.
We have a membership of around 30 and a full club programme shooting monthly across ranges from 300 to 1000 yards. The club program runs from March through October and is primarily designed to meet the needs and aspirations of club members as they strive to improve. This can mean occasionally shooting shoulder to shoulder with national champions!!
For those who wish to take up Full Bore target rifle shooting as a sport, the individual must now meet strict criteria recently imposed by the Ministry of Defence and administered by the National Rifle Association. This includes collecting personal details from you before you attend one of our shoots and passing these details on to Hertfordshire Constabulary to inform them of our activities.
If individuals would prefer to learn in a Club atmosphere, Welwyn Phoenix RC is an NRA Affiliated Club, approved for delivering a probationary training course for Target Rifle. Training is therefore purposely limited to FULL BORE TARGET RIFLE ONLY and is available to individuals over the age of 14 years. Training in Gallery Rifle and Black Powder Pistol disciplines is NOT part of the WPRC course.
