County Astor Cup Heat – May 12th 2013

The 2013 Hertfordshire Astor Heat was again a hard fought match with a close result. Having been beaten last year by Old Berkhamstedians on V bull count following a tied score, WPRC were focused on a more convincing performance.

Five teams again competed for the honour of representing the County, and with fine weather and deceptive winds our old adversaries Radlett were fielding a strong team containing Palma and international shots. We were struggling after 300 yards having dropped 10 points but with the conditions continuing to challenge our wind coaches Colin Skellett and Nick Verduyn there was a definite feeling of grim determination as we walked back for the 500 yard detail.

We held our form with controlled shooting at the middle distance and with the sun coming out confidence rose as we heard some of the other scores. With excellent coaching we repeated our 500 yard score at 600 again with 9 points dropped and an aggregate total of 602.60 for a good all round team performance.

Much checking of registers finally revealed our winning score just one point and one V clear of Radlett and a very happy WPRC team posed for the winners photograph. We progress to represent the county at the Astor final in July.

Details of the result were as follows:

WPRC 602.60
