Shooter Certification – First WPRC Graduate joins as a Full Member

New and prospective members of WPRC have always been able to enjoy excellent coaching from experienced members at the many shoots run by the club. Continuous improvement through coaching in a friendly club atmosphere has been one of the main stated aims of Welwyn Phoenix RC since its formation in 1982.

Coaching sessions in the past have always been carried out on an informal best practice basis. Following the introduction of stringent controls by the MoD which were imposed on the NRA and its affiliated clubs in late 2008 all shooters are now required to obtain a Certificate of Competence before being accepted as Full Shooting Members by affiliated clubs. As a result of this, all those new to full bore shooting are required to attend a formal NRA training course run over four day-long sessions and pass a final assessment test prior to achieving this vital qualification.

In Spring 2009, WPRC was selected by the NRA as one of their affiliated clubs qualified to run these courses and the club has recently celebrated with its first graduate Anthony Lewis who obtained his Certificate of Competence on September 27th this year.

Anthony is seen here on the ranges at Bisley, receiving his Certificate from Club President Bob Jackson and being promoted from provisional to Full Member status.
